Reasons to love Southwark

Estate Agents in Southwark

Looking for an Estate Agent in Southwark? Emoov can sell your property.

Southwark is both a district and London borough, situated in Central London, 1.5 miles east of Charing Cross. It is classified as one of the oldest parts of London, and has a population of around 30,000.

Culture in Southwark

Southwark is a culturally rich area, home to theatres the Globe and the Hope and the Rose, where William Shakespeare’s plays were first performed. The Tate Modern is also not far away, and is among the world’s most popular art galleries. Southwark also displays some of the capital’s finest architecture through its City Hall and the magnificently gothic Southwark Cathedral. The Shard is Southwark’s latest visitor attraction, an 87 storey skyscraper and the tallest building in the European Union.

Things to do in Southwark

In Southwark you certainly won’t be short of things to keep you occupied. Tourist attractions such as Tate Modern, Globe Theatre and Southwark Cathedral are always awash with thousands of tourists, but if you want to explore alternative attractions, then Borough Market is ideal. It’s one of London’s largest and oldest food markets and is open from Thursday to Sunday. The Clink is also an interesting place to visit, where you are immersed into the scandalous truth of Old Bankside prison, where you can view archaeological artefacts, handle torture devices and learn of the misfortunes of the inmates.

Student life in Southwark

There’s not a better place to study than in the heart of the capital, and Southwark’s primary university, London South Bank University is ideal. It has over 19,000 students and sits on the borders of Zones 1 and 2, with Elephant and Castle’s underground station just a two minute walk away. Southbank and its diverse entertainment opportunities are also just 10 minutes away.

Buying in Southwark

Borough mostly comprises converted flats, waterside apartments and warehouse conversions, whereas other areas in Southwark have more traditional housing options.
