Estate agents had until 31st January to register with the Office of Fair Trading in order to comply with the Money Laundering Regulations.
On Wednesday I received confirmation that Emoov’s application had been processed and that we were properly registered.
Knowing the pretty lacklustre attitude that many agents have toward rules and regulation, I was intrigued as to how many had signed up and so I contacted the OFT to ask.
The answer? Less than half of the 10,500 estate agencies that are estimated to be operating in England and Wales have registered.
I suppose you must ask yourself, if so many agents are not bothering to adhere to this particular law, what else are they not doing that they should be?
