Big news in the industry today. Yorkshire based estate agents Hunters have acquired 90 Bairstow Eves offices from Countrywide PLC. Neither party will disclose the amount paid.

In a deal that doubles the size of Hunters and which previously had 17 High Street branches plus 44 franchised operations, they will take over all of the Bairstow Eves’ franchised offices across the UK. 21 are in London and all will soon be rebranded as HUNTERS.

Kevin Hollinrake, Hunters co-founder, says that they will now ‘invest heavily in refurbishing the offices’ and in launching a ‘major national advertising campaign’.

Sounds expensive.

High Street estate agents’ fees are typically 1.6% of sale price. They have to be this much in order to pay for their numerous office premises and the staff to fill them.

According to the latest Home Moving Trends Survey by the Property Academy, 93% of home movers start their property search ONLINE.

Not by visiting the swanky, unnecessary branches of dozens of estate agents. Use an online estate agent.
