Reports today in our industry press are very revealing as to one particular, rather large High Street estate agency chain.
The latest information from Countrywide, owners of Bairstow Eves, Mann and Co, Abbotts and John D Wood and with over 900 offices, confirms what we always said was happening within the property market.
And that is that ALL of their enquiries now emanate from the internet. We knew from experience and from numerous surveys that we have conducted together with the likes of Rightmove and Zoopla, that buyers search online rather than traipsing along a wet and windy High Street in a quest to collect multiple sales particulars. It just doesn’t happen that way any more. Just the same as the traditional insurance broker office has now closed in the face of the might of Go Compare, Admiral, Direct Line etc etc.
The Countrywide numbers are very telling. 35% of its leads are from its own website, 35% from Zoopla and 30% from Rightmove.
That’s 100% and so, by admission, precious little in the way of business comes through the door. This is the modern reality.
So, proof enough that using a High Street agent has absolutely no advantage whatsoever.
Online estate agents are generally around ten times cheaper too. Proof enough?
