A low cost product but with high service levels? Not a chance, right? They are mutually exclusive, aren’t they?
We all know that the term ‘low cost’ means slovenly attention and inefficient staff.
Well, perhaps it used to. The fact is these days that everyone expects hyper value and no-one accepts shoddy service regardless of what they are paying.
Take the example of South West Airlines, the first low cost carrier. They currently have a 4 out of 5 customer service rating on Trip Advisor and an 86% customer recommendation rate. Not bad for a ‘cheap and cheerful’ approach.
And McDonalds restaurants. Would they have expanded to 33,000 outlets in 119 countries if their way of doing business was ‘anti-customer’?
What of Aldi, the ‘stack ’em high and sell ’em cheap’ grocery retailer? Crap. Surely? Funnily enough, they have just beaten Waitrose to be crowned the UK’s favourite supermarket.
Perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate our perception of low cost.
The higher the fee the better, surely? 😉
We don’t always get it right. No one is perfect. But we do absolutely try to be.
