High street campaigners have called for new planning rules to be introduced after Foxton’s estate agents confirmed plans to move into an old post office in West Hampstead, a move which would give the area its 30th property firm.
Emoov Founder Russell Quirk commented,
“West Hampstead is the latest area to be blighted by estate agency window displays and double parked mini’s. Not only is this a travesty for the economies of these areas whereby flash property firms outbid café’s and bijou boutiques and discourage day to day local spending. It also demonstrates an acute financial imbalance.
The might of Foxton’s and their eye watering fees are trumping the ability of independent traders to compete on rents. And when the property market softens again the agents will close shop and these London high streets will be the casualties”.
