After trying to get her hands on the property for years, Oprah Winfrey has just finalised a $28 million (£19.4 million) deal to grab a 23-acre equestrian estate. It even has its own miniature pony farm. Perfect!
Talk show host Oprah managed to outbid a fair few millionaires in order to snap up Seamair Far, an estate that sit next to her $50 million mansion. Finally sealing the deal means that she now owns 80 acres of property in the well sought after real estate market of Montecito, California. Included in the $28 million price tag is a farm that has been used to raise ponies for nearly 40 years.
The 23 acres of undeveloped land sits just south of Oprah’s lavish 42 acre estate, of which she named ‘The Promised Land’ in honour of Martin Luther King Jr. The original owner of Seamair Far, Mary Dell, passed away in 2015 and left the property to her children who then put it up for sale.
The main home was designed by renowned Californian lifestyle architect, Cliff May. The building itself spans over 5,016 square feet and it boasts four bedrooms, six bathrooms (not including all of the bedrooms en suites) a pool, open and covered patio decks, a manager’s cottage, horse trainer’s house, rambling stable and a barn. The entire estate has spectacular views of the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, making it a pretty picturesque place to live.
This is the third home Oprah has bought that is near or next to her $50 million estate since she moved to Montecito 15 years ago, so it would appear she only wants herself as a neighbour. In October 2004, she purchased a 4,584 square foot home next to her front gate for more than $4.3 million which is used for her guests. Then in 2005 she nabbed a 5.6 acre property just to the rear of her home which set her back $7 million.
The talk show star now owns almost 80 acres of property in the prime Montecito real estate market. However, she isn’t the only talk show host in the area as Ellen Degeneres has a house there too.
According to the auction house, the deal itself was a record, yet it seems like real estate is Oprah’s ‘thing’ as she has an apartment in Chicago, as well as homes in New jersey, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii and Antigua. She is said to have a net worth of $3 billion – nice!
