The UK’s most romantic cottage

Mar 3, 2016

Tucked away in the sleepy village of High Bickington in North Devon, is a cosy cottage that owners Bob and Kate Boothby have dubbed as the most romantic holiday home in the UK.

Surrounded by rolling green hills and steep river valleys, this 18th century two-bedroom cottage has seen 42 wedding proposals and has been a honeymoon retreat for over 186 guests. Bob and his wife Kate have been keeping track of the holiday proposals by chatting to guests and tallying up the visitor’s comments that have been left. Bob reckons that around 50% to 60% of the guests that stay there are honeymooners.

The appropriately named Rose Cottage, is the perfect mixture of boyish toys and shabby chic romance, which is apparently going down an ‘absolute storm’.

Couples can enjoy a state of the art 3D LCD TV, complete with access to Bob and Kate’s Netflix account, as well as a Bose surround sound system that has Sonos and Spotify throughout the entire property. However, when it comes to the romantic touches, it seems that Rose Cottage comes up trumps. Couples can enjoy a cosy night in by the log wood burner after a shared bath in the copper tub, big enough for two.

The large master bedroom includes a super king French bed, complete with accompanying French mirrored furniture. The second bedroom is beautifully decorated and offers a comfy double bed.

Downstairs is an open plan lounge area which includes a large dining room and even its own honesty bar (with wine tasting menu) and the luxurious kitchen is fully equipped for guests who wish to cook. The property is the perfect balance of spacious yet cosy.

However, it doesn’t stop there. Outside and to the rear of the cottage guests will have the pleasure of being able to enjoy a private and luxurious Beachcomber hot tub. The perfect hot tub cottage break!

Oh and don’t worry if you and another couple are staying in the cottage at the same time, Bob and Kate have described the walls to be very thick.
