Last night, our own Russell Quirk traded his bed for the streets to have a better understanding what it is like to not have a home. In the CEO Sleepout, business leaders from all sectors have fundraised to raise awareness on the homelessness crisis plaguing the UK by sleeping outside for a night.
As an entrepreneur and founder of an online estate agency, housing is Russell’s expertise. In doing this challenge, he aims to discuss the urgent need to solve the housing crisis – the prices are rising without having the housing stock available. Addressing and eliminating homelessness across the UK is the starting point that will eventually lead to the construction of more homes give people a roof over their heads.
Russell far exceeded his £2000 fundraising target and raised £3,026.14 in the end for charities around London and nationwide.
Thank you to everyone that has sponsored me to participate in CEO Sleepout on the 30th October. I’ve now hit my target of £2000 to raise money and awareness for the plight of the homeless, but if you can still donate please do as it’s for a very worthy cause. Now I have hit my target it looks like a night at home by a glowing fire watching Bake Off with a nice cup of tea is officially off the cards, so please dig deep safe in the knowledge that I’ll be staying outdoors from 8pm to 6am in a damp sleeping bag, with only a sheet of soggy cardboard for company.Russell Quirk
When it comes to housing, homelessness must first and foremost be tackled followed by improvements in the housing sector to provide homes for all people. The lack of available housing is only getting worse and if it continues at the same rate, more people will be living without a place to call home.
I am delighted to have the chance to make a difference regardless of how small and hope it will help raise awareness of the issue so more people feel compelled to do the same.Russell Quirk
Whether homelessness is a social problem close to your heart or it is amusing to see Russell living on the street, this is a great opportunity to open society’s eyes on the tremendous difficulties faced by several people daily on the Britain’s streets.
