Who are the primary players?

Property portals come in many shapes and sizes, but there are two primary websites where you want your property to feature: Rightmove and Zoopla. At the very minimum, you want your home on these two websites, as they have by far the greatest reach.

  • Rightmove:

    The UK’s number one property portal, Rightmove brings with it the most engaged property audience and the most extensive inventory of properties all under one roof. Overall, Rightmove sees around a whopping 127 million visitors per month.

  • Zoopla: 

    While Zoopla doesn’t generate as much traffic as Rightmove (50 million users per month), it’s still the second largest property portal on the market. Where Rightmove tends to feature around 1.1 million properties for sale, the competition is slightly less on Zoopla, who advertise around 920k. Zoopla also owns Hometrack, the property data website. Therefore, it has built a strong reputation for its property analytics.

  • PrimeLocation: 

    Once its own company, PrimeLocation was purchased by Zoopla in 2016 but is run as a separate entity. It’s designed to come across as a fresher, more modernised version of the property portals – an alternative to Rightmove and Zoopla, if you will.

Do I need an agent to be on Rightmove or Zoopla?

There are some free portals where you don’t need an agent to list your property – such as Gumtree. However, these free versions don’t have anywhere near the reach or reputation with potential buyers.
