Dorking offers a wide choice of state and private schooling and OFSTED gave St Pauls primary school an Outstanding rating in 2014.  Beech Side is in the catchment area for St Pauls and also for the excellent secondary schools, The Ashcombe and The Priory.  The surrounding areas include hundreds of acres of open countryside, much of it owned by the National Trust, including Ranmore Common, Leith Hill and Box Hill.

Dorking has a variety of cultural and leisure activities, with the Dorking Halls presenting cinema and live theatre.  There is a leisure centre, a good range of specialist shops and a choice of four supermarkets, including Waitrose.  Internet access is excellent and Beech Side currently has a 40 megabit link.
